Tarsheed Energy signs agreement to install solar PV systems on rooftops of government schools
In a step considered to be the first of its kind, an agreement was signed between the Ministry of Education and the Sustainable Energy Authority and Bahraini company Tarsheed Energy to install solar PV systems on rooftops of five government schools as part of the government's vision towards the use of renewable energy on government buildings by installing solar PV systems.
The solar energy purchase agreement is considered to be one of the global models to use renewable energy and at a lower tariff than the price of that of the government’s in which the developer installs solar PV systems on the rooftops of buildings and ensures the continuity of production during the term of the agreement.
Tarsheed Energy is a Bahraini company which specializes in power purchase agreements in addition to a variety of services and products that contribute to reducing electricity consumption for various governmental and private sectors. Madares Solar Energy was established through a joint venture between Tarsheed Energy and Saudi company, Desert Technologies.
The signing ceremony, which was held virtually, was attended by Dr. Majid bin Ali Al Nuaimi, Minister of Education, H. E. Dr. Abdul Hussain bin Ali Mirza, President of the Sustainable Energy Authority, and Mr. Seena Dashti, Managing Director of Tarsheed Energy and who represented the Madares Solar Energy joint venture which includes the two Saudi and Bahraini companies.
On this occasion, Mr. Seena Dashti asserted the single and tangible national spirit among the governmental entities in their cooperative efforts. The launch of this initiative marks a significant shift in the field of renewable energy in the Kingdom. This initiative is considered to be one of the largest cooperation projects for the private and public sector to install solar PVsystems on government schools thus far. Dashti also praised the efforts of the Sustainable Energy Authority in the Kingdom of Bahrain for this initiative and the tireless efforts to ensure its implementation.
This pioneering project comes in line with Bahrain’s 2030 vision and will contribute to achieving more investments in solar energy projects and in itself paves the way for similar projects. This is due to the significant positive impact in achieving the national goals of renewable energy in which the Kingdom of Bahrain has set a national renewable energy target of 5% by 2025 and 10% by 2035.
